NALSAR (NLU Hyderabad) is counted amongst the top law schools of the country. For many Candidates appearing for CLAT 2025, NALSAR is the dream NLU. In India, NALSAR is the second National Law University established in India.

The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) was established in 1998 by a Statute of the State of Andhra Pradesh. According to the 2023 NIRF ranking, NALSAR Hyderabad is the 3rd best law school in the country.

It constantly features among the top two National Law Universities in any rankings conducted in the field of legal education.

NALSAR offer various programs like BA LLB Hons, LLM, M.Phil Law, and PhD Law. To get into BA LLB Hons, you need to take the CLAT UG exam, while for LLM, it’s the CLAT PG exam. Admission to the M.Phil Law program involves a test and interview, but those with UGC NET/JRF/SLET qualifications are exempt from the test.

NALSAR was driven by mandatory courses until 2012, but post-re-evaluation in June 2012, it moved to a credit-based system, wherein a student is required to earn 200 credit points to earn their degree.

NALSAR Courses

NALSAR B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Programme

The NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad provides a 5-year integrated B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) programme. Candidates who want to take admission in the 5-year Bachelor of Laws (Honors) course at NALSAR College of Law, Hyderabad should appear for CLAT and get good score.

NALSAR LL.M. Programme

NALSAR’s LL.M. Programme is a 1-year programme. It is a mix of research work and courses. Candidates should be aware of the fact that the university offers 30% (32 seats) i.e. a Horizontal reservation for Female candidates for admission to this particular course.

Admission to this particular course is based on CLAT rank. Candidates seeking admission must be eligible and of a suitable rank. However, the university makes reservations for students residing in Telangana.

NALSAR LL.M. Ph.D.

The duration for integrated LL.M., Ph.D. programme is four years. Candidates should keep in mind that they will receive stipend throughout their studies.

NALSAR MBA Program

NALSAR University, Hyderabad Two Year M.B.A. (Master in Business Administration) program, which aims to combine higher education in law with management studies. The program offers specialization in Corporate Governance, Court Management, Financial Services and Capital Markets, Sustainability and Innovation Management, Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, and Business Regulations.

NALSAR Ph.D. Program

NALSAR University in Hyderabad offers a Ph.D. program with two options. Candidates can choose to pursue it on a full-time basis which will take at least 2 to 3 years complete or on part-time basis which will will take you approximately 3-6 years to earn your degree.

NALSAR BA LLB Eligibility

  • Candidates should have completed and passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or an equivalent examination.
  • General: Not less than 45%
  • ST/SC/student with Disability: Minimum 40% aggregate marks
  • Candidates will be selected through CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) Examination

NALSAR  LLM Eligibility

  • The candidate must have an LL.B Degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized university.
  • General: Not less than 55%
  • SC/ST/student with Disability: Minimum 50% Aggregate marks
  • Candidates will be selected through CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) Examination

NALSAR  M.Phil Eligibility

  • The candidate must have secured a Master’s Degree in law with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks
  • Candidates will be selected through an Entrance Test + Interview

NALSAR  PhD Eligibility

  • The candidate must have secured a Master’s Degree from any UGC recognized university or an equivalent degree from a foreign university.
  • General: A minimum of 55% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA
  • SC/ST/student with Disability: A minimum of 50% aggregate marks
  • High Court Judges having a minimum of 3 years of experience can also apply.
  • Candidates will be selected through an Entrance Test + Interview

National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University of Law, Hyderabad is well aware about its value and how many candidates aspire to be a part of this institute and therefore NALSAR offers both fee relaxation and scholarships to provide financial assistance to deserving candidates. To be eligible to apply for fee concession and scholarship, a candidate should have

  • Minimum 60% marks in the 10+2 examination, if the candidate is a first-year student.
  • Other students need to maintain a minimum CGPA of 4.00 to avail of fee waiver where the annual income of parents should not exceed Rs. 3,50,000/- p.a.
  • Scholarships are awarded to students based on merit-cum-means criteria
