Army Institute of Law Eligibility Criteria

- To be eligible for admission into the B.A. LL.B program at AIL, candidates must have completed their 10+2 education from the Punjab School Education Board or from another recognized equivalent board, as approved by the university nominated by the Government of Punjab, Patiala.
- Applicants who have obtained their 10+2 qualification through Open University systems without any foundational academic background are not eligible for admission to AIL’s law programs.
- Students appearing for their 10+2 exams in March/April may apply and appear for the AIL Law Entrance Test (AIL-LET) on a provisional basis. However, their admission will be cancelled if they fail to secure the required percentage of marks in those exams.
- Candidates who pass their 10+2 through supplementary or compartment exams conducted after the main examination will not be considered for admission, even if vacancies are available.
- If an applicant has passed the qualifying examination from a board or university not officially recognized as equivalent by the nominated university of the Punjab Government, they must present an eligibility certificate from the said university during the interview process. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
- Candidates awaiting delayed results must proactively request their respective examination boards to send a confidential copy of their results directly to the Principal of Army Institute of Law, Mohali. The responsibility for timely submission lies solely with the applicant. Any delay in receiving the results will lead to ineligibility for admission.
- Additionally, as per Punjabi University, Patiala’s directive (Letter No. 5262 dated June 19, 2000), students who have passed their qualifying examinations through the Bihar Education Board are not eligible for admission to the institute.

Army Institute of Law – Intake and Reservation
For B.A. LL.B:
The total sanctioned intake for the B.A. LL.B program is 100 seats, although the actual intake each year is limited to 80 students. Out of the 100 seats, 75 are reserved for the wards of Army personnel. Additionally, 20 seats are allocated for candidates under the Punjab Resident Civil Category, while 5 seats are reserved for applicants from the All India Civil Category.
For LL.M:
The LL.M program at AIL offers a total of 15 seats. Of these, 12 seats are reserved for the wards of Army personnel. The remaining 3 seats are distributed between the Punjab Resident Civil Category (2 seats) and the All India Civil Category (1 seat).
