What Is The Paper Pattern of CLAT?
- The total number of questions in the undergraduate CLAT exam and post-graduate CLAT exams is 150 and 120, respectively.
- CLAT Exam duration is of 2 hours
- The question paper of CLAT for UG courses is based on five subjects i.e. English Language, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Techniques.
- Whereas, CLAT question paper for PG courses is based on law subjects including Constitutional Law, Contract, Torts, Criminal Law etc
- Wherein Number of MCQ questions on Constitutional Law is 60 in CLAT.
What Is the Eligibility For CLAT?

CLAT 2024 Eligibility for UG Program
The UG exam of CLAT is the entrance examination for Undergraduate Courses, i.e., Bachelor of Legislative Law.
You must satisfy the following eligibility criteria to apply for the 3-year BA LLB program of CLAT:
- There is no upper age limit for candidates appearing for UG Programme through the CLAT 2024.
- Candidates must secure the following minimum percentage of marks in their qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or an equivalent examination):
- Forty five percent (45%) marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI categories
- Forty Percent (40%) marks or equivalent in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.
- Candidates who may be appearing for their qualifying examination in March/ April are also eligible to appear for the CLAT examination. However, they shall be required to produce an evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission for CLAT, failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission.
The result of the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2) shall be submitted by the candidate at the time of admission for CLAT, failing which the candidate shall be ineligible for admission to the course they may have applied for, for CLAT.
CLAT 2024 Eligibility PG Eligibility
- An L.L.B. Degree or an equivalent examination with a minimum of Fifty percent (50%) marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories and Forty-Five percent (45%) marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories is required for CLAT
- Candidates appearing for their qualifying examination in April/May are also eligible to apply for CLAT
There is no upper age limit for appearing for the CLAT 2024.
Tie Breaker Rule in CLAT

If more than one candidate secures an equal number of marks in the CLAT, the break of tie shall be by the following procedure and order as under:
- Higher marks in the component/section on Legal Aptitude in the exam;
- Higher age;
- Computerised draw of lots
PG Exam of CLAT
In case of equal marks in the PG exam of CLAT, the break of tie shall be by the following procedure and order as under:
- Higher age;
- Computerised draw of lots.
CLAT Sample Paper
While preparing for CLAT, CLAT sample paper is extremely important. CLAT sample paper is released by the Consortium of NLUs. But CLAT sample paper has not been released yet. Applying for CLAT exam is quite simple and easy. Online mode is used for smooth application process for CLAT. The process is quick and you can easily do it in minutes.

- Visit the official website of CLAT, i.e., clatconsortiumofnlus.ac.in
- On the Home page, click the link “register” and complete the registration process by entering the name and mobile number and setting a password.
- Enter the OTP received on the registered mobile number. This completes the registration process.
- Log in to the portal using the registered mobile number and password.
- Complete the application form by entering all the correct details.
- Upload necessary scanned images, documents, and signatures in the specified format.
- Pay the fee through the different online payment modes to complete the application process.

How Do I Study Clat Along With My 12th Boards?
12th Boards exam and CLAT are both important for a student. You need to have a good strategy to score good in CLAT as well as boards. Many student don’t realise this and end up scoring less in either of the exam or sometimes both. The most common question from most of students is when to start studying for CLAT. The simple answer to this question is as early as possible.
You need to have a clear mind because managing CLAT and Boards is not going to be easy and might be stressful at times.
Strategy: You need to device your own strategy for CLAT because you know yourself well, your weakness and your strengths and therefore you can make a plan which suits you the best.
Timing: Ideal time for preparation of for CLAT is 10 months. Ideally, you should start preparing from. Shift your concentration on the board exam from CLAT 2-3 months prior of the exam. You can put 2-3 hours for CLAT during that period and manage both of them. Post the board examination one can focus on CLAT.
Revision: You should keep enough time in your hand to revise because revision is the key for CLAT. In last two months they should focus on mock test and revision. Don’t forget for CLAT every hour counts. If you are determined to pursue career in Law you can even start studying from 11th grade it will give you advantage over others in CLAT
Planning your schedule: Plan your study schedule a day prior for CLAT. Achieve your daily targets and if you are unable to achieve try to complete on next day. Make sure it starts with reading newspaper as most of the students read it after studies or before sleep. Reading newspaper is a must for CLAT. Try to study more during weekends, it will make a huge difference in your score for CLAT
Be Focused: You need to be focussed to crack CLAT. CLAT is a demanding examination. You need thorough preparation to score well. GK section is the tricky one in CLAT and therefore you need to prepare for GK throughout the year. GK section of CLAT can be a game changer. According to some toppers you need to dedicate 80 % of your time for GK as it requires consistent efforts from students. In early days of your 12th spend 65 percent of your time for preparation of CLAT and later 35 percent time on 12th board later do spend 65 percent of time for boards and remaining for CLAT.
CLAT Consortium
Until 2018, the CLAT Exam was administered by NLUs on a rotating basis. But, in 2019, a permanent body made up of institutions known as the Consortium of NLUs is conducting CLAT. The Consortium (also known as the CLAT Consortium) is headquartered at NLSIU Bangalore
In 2023, the Convenor of CLAT was Professor (Dr) Sudhir Krishnaswamy, Vice-Chancellor of NLSIU Bangalore. Professor Dr Poonam Saxena (Vice-Chancellor) had been elected as the president of CLAT Consortium in 2023.
CLAT 2024 Admission Process
The CLAT Selection Process 2024 will consists of the following stages:

In the CLAT counselling round, the candidates will be granted a seat in the preference order of the NLU (as filled in the CLAT application form) based on seat availability and merit list
CLAT Exam 2023 Analysis
- CLAT 2023 was conducted on December 18th, 2022
- The difficulty level of the CLAT question depends upon how prepared is the candidate for CLAT
- But many candidate termed the CLAT 2023 paper as moderately difficulty
- Logical Reasoning, and Legal Aptitude question of CLAT 2023 paper were really length and that is why were time consuming
- Quantitative Techniques of the CLAT 2023 paper had a number of tricky questions depending upon the candidate’s preparation
- The General Knowledge section of the CLAT 2023 paper was quite unpredictable. Many static GK questions were asked and current affairs questions were around recent news.
